Laboratory

Lab for technical foundations of computer science

The main goal is to teach electronic foundations.
Starting with ohmic resistors and bipolar transistors up to programmable micro-controllers and small computers, the lab provides hardware for experiments in the fields of technical computer science and embedded systems.

Basis of Zero and One

One of the first experiments in the lab covers a flipflop consisting of two transistors and three or four resistors. The flipflop, on the one side, rectifies an analogue signal to One or Zero, and on the other side, persists the value until it is switched off.

Possibilities

Present devices in the lab allow to connect micro-controllers, measurement devices, sensors, actors using different busses and allow to create networks and to analyse communication structures.
Beyond undergraduate studies the lab is the basis for projects for the german future day, a day where young pupils visit organisations and companies to learn about future jobs and skills; and the lab is as well a basis to teach female pupils to do a pre-study. In summary, the lab provides contact for young people to get in touch with the university of applied sciences and with computer hardware.

Learning environment

In 2023 and 2024, sound absorbing elements were mounted on the ceiling and on walls to reduce noise and provide a calm learning atmosphere allowing intense discussions in small groups without disturbing others.
